Dear Sir or Madame:
My name is William Gallagher and I am a disabled and unemployed person who would like to be gainfully employed. But although I have an updated resume on The Ladders, Monster, and several other job sites and have placed or emailed in applications to 60 or so places in the last year...I've had little to no response. Here I am a father of three, a family of five living in a two bedroom apartment in Pennsylvania. I died and was resuscitated and spent several days in a coma. This was back in 1994. After that it was three back surgeries, Heart surgery, Brain surgery...
Now it is 2011, Mr Obama is in the White House, 2012 is ominously looking financially worse, and I would like my children to have at least something of a childhood and memories that are other than tragic. Can someone help?
Can I get grants? Everytime I try and look on line for what is available for disabled parentsit's more than an uninformed person can fathom. Or there are services that you have to pay for. I used to make $103,000.00 at my last job at Pridential Fox Roach Realators in Devon, Pennsylvania. But when my manager left and the new regimen came in...I apparently was an easy way to cut their bottom line. I had setup the Help desk to be fully web accessed by all IT departments and took their closed calls from less than 50% to near 97%. And metrics were available at the click of a button to anyone who needed them in management. The only mistake i made was doing my job to completely, and not making the help desk helpless without me. But then again I always worked under the idea that you work smarter not harder, give everything you can to your occupation without impacting your family and their lives, and make sure that my job can be done if I am there or at home.
Perhaps, all those mornings I came in at 4AM to make sure everything that needed to be maintained was completed so that I could deal with any crisis that arose and still start the work day with the rest of my employees and be able to leave before 6PM.
Isn't there anything available for a disabled family man who would like to take his children to Disney World once before he dies or they go off to college? A man who wants to contribute to his families well being instead of just sitting here in pain 24/7 and do something productive in my given field? I've taught myself computers back in 1983 starting on an IBM 8086 with 265K of RAM that my parents (whom help my family get by and are in their eighties) bought for $3000.00. From their I've continually forged ahead making 10K, 25K, 40K, 66K, 86K, then finally over the 100K mark. I was the first of six children in my family to do that without completing collegeand who's brothers and sisters are all college Graduates. One works in our State Department as a financial attache' to Malaysia, My oldest brother is a nuclear chemist and pharmasist and works and teaches at Harvard, The others are Nurses or Computer Analysts. I used to be rather proud of myself but now I fgeel like a burden. Please help us. As I WANT TO WORK or just give my family a vacation once before I die.
